February has been a month of meaningful milestones and new beginnings here at Walking With Honor. Every step forward reminds us why this mission matters — bringing together rescue dogs and veterans to build partnerships rooted in trust, healing, and purpose.
Walking With Honor was built on the belief that healing can happen through partnership — that rescue dogs and veterans can help each other move forward. This month, that belief became reality in a new and meaningful way.
We officially welcomed our first veteran into the Walking With Honor program.
This moment represents more than just a program milestone. It represents the beginning of a partnership that will grow through training, trust, and shared experiences. It marks the point where Walking With Honor moves from vision into action — where rescue dogs and veterans begin walking this journey together. Walking With Honor was built from lived experience. As a veteran living with PTSD, I understand the daily challenges that many veterans face and the difference a service dog can make.
This program was created because I know what that partnership can mean — not just in big moments, but in everyday life. Walking With Honor exists so that other veterans can experience that same support and connection.
Every veteran who comes to Walking With Honor will be treated with respect, patience, and care as we build partnerships designed to last a lifetime. This month also marked the arrival of Nia, our first official Walking With Honor training dog.
Like many rescue dogs, Nia needed time to settle in and learn that she was safe. The first few days were quiet as she adjusted to her new environment and routines, but she has made incredible progress in a short time.
One of the biggest milestones this month was Nia’s first day working in her vest, an important step in her journey toward becoming a service dog. She has also begun her public training outings, learning how to stay calm and focused in new environments and building confidence with each experience.
Training a service dog is a slow and intentional process. Every outing, every training session, and every quiet moment builds the foundation for a future partnership with a veteran.
Behind the scenes, Walking With Honor continues to grow as an organization. This month brought important progress as we officially became a recognized nonprofit, allowing us to continue building programs that will serve veterans and rescue dogs for years to come.
This milestone represents more than paperwork — it represents a commitment to the future. Honor’s legacy lives on through every dog we train and every veteran we support.
As we move forward, our mission remains clear:
· Rescue dogs deserve second chances
· Veterans deserve support and partnership
· Healing happens together
Walking With Honor is still in its early days, but something meaningful is taking shape — one dog at a time and one veteran at a time.
We are grateful for everyone who believes in this mission and follows the journey as Walking With Honor continues to grow.
Thank you for walking this path with us.
