September 2026 — Still Rolling Full Steam Ahead

If August was supposed to be the month where we slowed down and caught our breath, apparently September didn’t get the memo.

Walking With Honor is still rolling full steam ahead, and September brought another month filled with veterans, dogs, community, new connections, important conversations, and a few little breadcrumbs about something BIG coming in October.

We May Have Dropped a Few Hints...

We started September by dropping a few breadcrumbs about an amazing event Walking With Honor and our friends at Veterans Resource Alliance of New England have been working on together.

Okay… maybe by the end of the month they weren’t exactly little breadcrumbs anymore.

United We Stand, Inflatable We Fall is coming in October!

What started as an idea to bring veterans, veteran organizations, supporters, families, and our community together has turned into something we are incredibly excited about. This event isn't about fundraising. It's about connection, camaraderie, friendly competition, and giving everyone a reason to come together and laugh.

And considering inflatable kickball is involved, we are pretty confident there will be plenty of laughing.

September was filled with planning, organizing, recruiting teams and volunteers, and getting all the pieces in place. We cannot wait to finally see everyone take the field in October!

Supporting Those Who Support Our Veterans

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, an important time to bring awareness to mental health and suicide prevention, especially within our veteran community.

We were honored to attend the 22Mohawks Gala after being invited by our friends at the New England Battalion Foundation.

22Mohawks does incredible work bringing awareness to veteran suicide and creating opportunities for veterans to reconnect, find purpose, and build community. Being in a room filled with people who are working toward the same larger goal — supporting those who served — is always a reminder of why collaboration within the veteran community is so important.

None of us can do this work alone.

Remembering September 11th

This September also marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

For so many veterans, military families, first responders, and Americans, September 11th holds a deeply personal meaning. It changed lives, changed families, and inspired an entire generation of men and women to raise their right hand and serve.

Faith had the honor of attending the Patriot Riders of America 9/11 Metal & Honor Memorial Ride at The Brook Casino.

It was a day of remembrance, honor, motorcycles, community, and reflection as people came together to remember those we lost, recognize those who answered the call, and ensure that 25 years later, we continue to Never Forget.

Six New Veterans Joined the WWH Family

One of the biggest things that happened this month?

We welcomed SIX new veterans into the Walking With Honor program!

Every application we receive represents a veteran taking a big step. Asking for help isn't always easy, and trusting an organization — and its process — can be even harder.

We don't take that trust lightly.

Each veteran comes to us with a different story, different experiences, and different goals. Our job isn't to fit everyone into the same box. It's to listen, learn, and determine how we can best support them through our programs.

Six new veterans also means a whole lot of work happening behind the scenes — interviews, paperwork, documentation, background checks, conversations, board reviews, dog searches and planning.

But this is exactly why Walking With Honor exists.

You Had Us at “Muttfest”

Of course, you know we can't go an entire month without finding ourselves at a dog event.

We attended Motley Mutts Muttfest at 603 Brewery, and this one may have also involved a tiny bit of reconnaissance for next year's Honor's Legacy Bash.

We met so many amazing dog-focused vendors and small businesses, made new connections, talked about Walking With Honor, and — obviously — met plenty of dogs along the way.

Events like Muttfest give us an opportunity to introduce WWH to people who may have never heard of us before. They also help us continue building relationships within the rescue and dog community.

And yes, we were absolutely taking mental notes about vendors we'd love to see at the 2027 Honor's Legacy Bash.

We're always planning something.

Blue Seal Farm & Home

Our friends at Blue Seal Farm & Home in Bow invited us to participate in their Customer Appreciation Fill the Tote event.

Faith and Cassie spent the day talking with customers, answering questions about Walking With Honor, sharing our mission, and accepting donations to support our programs.

Community partnerships like this mean so much to a small nonprofit.

Sometimes support isn't a huge check or a giant fundraiser. Sometimes it's simply a local business saying, “Come set up a table. Tell people what you do. We'll help you get your name out there.”

Those opportunities add up, and every new person who learns about Walking With Honor could be someone who knows a veteran who needs us, a rescue with the right dog, a future volunteer, donor, sponsor, or community partner.

Faith Joins the TRAX Panel

September also gave Faith an opportunity to be part of the TRAX panel, adding another important veteran-focused conversation to an already busy month.

Being invited into these spaces gives Walking With Honor an opportunity not only to talk about what we do, but also to listen.

Every veteran's experience is different. The more organizations communicate, share resources, and learn from one another, the stronger the network of support becomes for veterans throughout our community.

That collaboration has been one of the biggest lessons we've learned since starting Walking With Honor.

And Somehow… We're Heading Into October

September was another one of those months that reminds us just how quickly Walking With Honor continues to grow.

We welcomed six new veterans.

We stood alongside organizations raising awareness about veteran suicide.

We honored the 25th anniversary of September 11th.

We strengthened relationships with veteran organizations, businesses, rescues, vendors, and members of our community.

We talked about dogs.

We met dogs.

We probably talked about dogs some more.

And behind the scenes, we were preparing for one of the most ridiculous — and hopefully memorable — community events we've ever helped put together.

October, we're ready for you.

Well…

As ready as anyone can possibly be for a bunch of veterans and civilians running around a baseball field wearing inflatable costumes.
